Yukatas (Casual Kimonos)

What are “Yukatas”?

Yukatas used to be worn as a kind of housedresses or pajamas in the room. Nowadays people in Japan wear yukatas when they visit hot spring baths or stay at Japanese-style hotels (or “Ryokans”). Also, yukatas usually have colorful patterns on them and can be worn as a casual Kimono, especially in the summer time. You can see people wearing yukatas at informal summer events, such as local festivals, dances, fireworks, etc.
