What are “Japanese Traditional Crafts”?

Hi, it’s Kayskay! How is everyone doing?

Today, I would like to explain what “Japanese Traditional Crafts” are.

Japanese Traditional Crafts are authorized by the “Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry” of Japan, which are supposed to meet the following five requirements:

1. It should be used in daily lives.
2. Most of its manufacturing process should be done by human hands.
3. Its manufacturing technique or method should have been the same for more than 100 years.
4. Basically, its main material should have been the same for more than 100 years.
5. It should be forming a sustainable industry in a certain area.

As of Nov. 20, 2019, there are “235” traditional crafts authorized in Japan. Wow!

I do not want to list them all here, but the products that are already introduced at this website now (the Japanese Lacquerware, Yosegizaiku, Sensu & Uchiwa Fans, Edo Kiriko Glasswork, and Yuzen Dyeing Products) are all “authorized traditional crafts.”

We will keep going and add more Japanese traditional crafts one by one!

Oh, of course, we do not stick to traditional crafts only, but we will add some high-quality goods or items as well.
