The rainy season is over now, and the summer has brought us hot boiling days in Japan!

The high temperature in the Kanto Area (around Tokyo) will be between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius (about 86 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit) for a while, probably until the middle of September.

Many school children from elementary schools to high schools are having a summer vacation from the end of July to the end of August. (This, of course, differs depending on areas in Japan.)

Usually, there are a lot of events in summer for children to enjoy, like going out for trips, fireworks shows, summer festivals called “bon” festivals, beaches, summer camps, etc.

But this year, some summer events have been or will be canceled due to Covid-19, just like last year.

It is also annoying that we all have to wear a mask in this terrible heat.

I suppose these are the kind of things many of you in the world are experiencing as well.

On the bright side, however, we can enjoy watching athletes’ great performances at the Olympic Games on TV.

They are really great, but I just hope that they can do their best without getting the virus, and that the event will be over safely and peacefully.
